Employee engagement is under pressure. I don't think that anyone wouldn't agree with this. Do I have the holy grail to improve this? Unfortunately, I'll have to disappoint you.

But there is already one big step you can take to tackle this. Focus on skills growth within your organization and enhance your workforce skills. There are a whole lot of scientific studies that show that we want to develop & grow ourselves as humans. And the speed of change is increasing, so the eagerness to learn has increased immediately with it.

Looking back only five years ago, you'll see huge differences in how we work, travel, and arrange our life. Imagine what it will be like in the coming years. You want to stay caught up.

As we know, businesses (and related roles) require new skills every couple of periods. So, first, consider your position and the skills you have obtained lately compared to 5 years ago. Next, employees are becoming more vocal about their will to learn these skills. But unfortunately, only a few companies succeeded in making the best out of these 2 desires.

What can you do to start working (or improve) on skills management?

  1. Provide training and development opportunities: offer training programs, workshops, and mentorship opportunities to help employees develop their skills and knowledge.
  2. Encourage learning on the job: create an environment that encourages employees to learn new skills by allowing them to work on new projects and take on new responsibilities.
  3. Offer tuition reimbursement: help employees pursue higher education or attend industry conferences by offering tuition reimbursement or financial support.
  4. Provide career development resources: offer career counseling, coaching, and other resources to help employees plan their career paths and identify areas for skill development.
  5. Offer job rotations and job shadowing: allow employees to work in different departments or roles to gain new perspectives and develop new skills. Increase internal mobility.
  6. Recognize and reward learning and development: incentivize learning and development by recognizing and rewarding employees who take on new challenges and develop new skills.

Promoting employee skills growth can benefit both the employees and the company. It can include improved job satisfaction, increased productivity, enhanced innovation, improved employee retention, better reputation, and better business performance. In addition, as employees become more skilled and knowledgeable, they can contribute more to the company's success, leading to better business performance.
